I live in the countryside, somewhere in Argeș, Romania. Every morning I have my coffee on my front porch.
Today my neighbor is putting the roof on his new house. He’s got a big house, a one-story house made of bricks to withstand the vicissitudes of the future. As I was saying, my neighbor was busy with his team of roof specialists in full action. From my front porch, I could not see anything. I had only sound, a kind of radiophonic theatre, until a point.
At one point, I saw the head of a man who was up on the roof. The man, extremely angry, was having an eloquent conversation with the unseen people on the ground. The conversation went kind of like this:
” I am talking for nothing. I can’t get through to you. Give me that piece of rope over there.” orders the man on the roof.
From down the ground, it was total silence. I suppose they gave the man the piece of rope. A few minutes later, I heard a voice that implied some urgency:
“Cap him, you cap him fast…cap him I said” those orders were barked by the same man that was asking for the piece of rope earlier. ( in Romanian to cap somebody means to hit somebody).
Now my brain was in total fog, what should I do? To call the police and say, somebody is hit over the head on my neighbor’s roof, or to ask the angry man if he needs some soap to go with that rope?
Life in the countryside and the morning coffee – dangerous and complicated!
